The Center for Molecular Modeling is open to host potential MSCA Individual Fellowships, provided your research topic fits into our active research lines and provided you have a proven excellent track record. We are typically interested in researchers who can enforce our team and have a strong motivation to work in a highly ambitious research team. If you are interested, we request that you send your CV to Prof. V. Van Speybroeck (Veronique.vanspeybroeck@ugent.be). All applications will be screened upon their suitability to the criteria set above.

While metal-organic and covalent organic frameworks are still in their infancy compared to zeolites, their versatility and nearly unlimited tunability endow these materials with an enormous potential as heterogeneous catalysts. In a recent review, to be published in Chemical Society Reviews, we highlight how recent advances, both in synthetic conditions as well as in modelling and characterization tools, contribute to unprecedented insight in heterogeneous catalysis and may be a game changer in catalyst design for a number of processes currently dominated by homogeneous catalysts. This review, which is part of a Chemical Society Reviews special issue on MOFs and is featured on the front cover, was coordinated by prof. Jorge Gascon from TU Delft and prof. Veronique Van Speybroeck from the Center for Molecular Modeling, in collaboration with the experimental groups of Francesc X. Llabrés i Xamena, Enrique V. Ramos-Fernandez, and Marco Daturi. This review forms a milestone within the ERC DYNPOR grant and DEFNET programme, which focus on the investigation of complex chemical transformations in nanoporous materials.
On Friday December 2 2016 Rich Pastor from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Washington DC, is visiting the CMM. He will a give a talk entitled 'Simulation of curvature induction and membrane disruption by antimicrobial peptides'.
Rich Pastor was a post-doc with Martin Karplus, the Nobel prize winner in Chemistry of 2013, and has made an enormous contribution to the field of modeling lipid membrane. His theoretical expertise includes force field development, barostats/thermostats, diffusion/viscosity, periodic boundary/size effects, and the applications are everything that is related to phospholipids.
On September 26 2016 Prof. Chris G. Van de Walle (Materials Department, University of California, CA, USA) will give a lecture entitled 'Hydrogen interactions with materials: from semiconductors to hydrogen storage'.
When: September 26 2016 at 11h00 Location: Leszaal Magnel II, Technologiepark 904, Zwijnaarde.
On August 23 2016 Aliezer Martinez (University of Havana, Cuba) will give a seminar at the Center for Molecular Modeling entitled 'Molecular adsorption and isomerization on nanostructured surfaces'.
Dr. Lennart Joos has been featured in EOS Magzine as expert in the field of carbon capture and storage. The article, entitled 'Machines halen koolstof uit de lucht', written by Dieter De Cleene, is published in issue 5 (2016). http://scienceshop.be/Catalog/Product/408975
